The Youghal Town Clock

Youghal Town Clock in Cork
Excerpt from Wikipedia

Clock Gate Tower - In 1777, the town's Clock Gate Tower was built on the site of Trinity Castle, part of the town's fortifications. It was used as a prison during the rebellion of 1798, and a pole lashed from the lower windows to the corner of the first house on South Main Street (now Luigi's) was used for hangings. Thomas Gallagher was one of those hanged for trying to seduce a soldier from allegiance to his regiment. Numerous forms of torture were conducted therein including thumb screws, pitch-cap, rack and the lime boot and flogging. The Clock Gate served the town as gaol and public gallows until 1837 when it was considered "defective in several of the accomodations essential to the health of prisoners".  It then became a family home until 1959 when the last family left.

Sunset over the ocean at Charles Fort, Kinsale County Cork

Sun setting over Charles Fort
I was quite thrilled to get this stunning sunset photograph at Charles Fort in Kinsale one February day a few years ago.  It's pretty rare to have such a beautiful sky in Ireland in February, but I was lucky enough to be at Charles Fort for this one.

Horses in a field in County Clare

Horses near the Burren Co. Clare
I LOVE this picture :)
I just had to stop and take a photo of these guys running around in this field.  The young horse was really enjoying his youth, running back and forth and doing circles around the grey horse.
The stone wall you see at the bottom of the picture is very common around all of rural Ireland.  Stacks of stones perfectly placed to make a good sturdy barrier.
Also in the background you can see some deforestation.  Hopefully new trees have been planted in place of the ones cut down.
Enjoy!

Ross Castle, Killarney

Ross Castle
This castle was built in the 15th century, and it is an amazing place to visit if you are in the Killarney area.

Co. Clare ocean view

Co. Clare - looking out towards the Aran Islands
I took this shot on route to the Cliffs of Moher 2 years ago.  I envied the beautiful location that these cows had for themselves, however the barbed wire made me appreciate my freedom to roam :)
